Weathers was a former NFL football player with the Oakland Raiders until he retired in 1974 to concentrate on acting.
He started out in two small roles in films like "Bucktown" and "Magnum Force", "Friday Foster" plus a few TV shows like "Good Times", "S.W.A.T." and "The Six Million Dollar Man".
His big break came in 1976 when he won the role of Apollo Creed in the film "Rocky" and it changed his entire career. After the film he got roles in movies like "Force 10 From Navarone", "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" and he reprised his Creed role in three more "Rocky" films.
One of my personal favorites of his is the 1988 film "Action Jackson".
Weathers passed away on February 1. 2024 at the age of 76.
