Well I finally got to see it in a beautiful widescreen, japanese original version with English subtitles. It was a treat to re-visit this in all it's glory.
'The story is very simple. A race of starfish aliens lnd on Earth to warn the planet of impending doom, but everytime they show themselves people flee in terror, so a new plan has to be devised.
They decide to take the shape of humans and try to warn people. This works a little bit better and they issue the warning of another planet that is on a collision course with Earth.
Scientists decide to use all of the nuclear weapons on the Earth to destroy the approaching planet, but it fails, so the aliens help a scientist who has developed a weapon stronger than the atomic bomb use it to destroy the alien body.
Worldwide disaster is happening everywhere as humans and aliens race against time. This is a different kind of Japanese alien film, and it works very well.
In the time when this was made a lot of Japanese films were giant monsters and such, and this came out of nowhere and was received ok, but not great. The presentation on TUBI looks great and if you've only seen the tattered 16mm prints going around, this will be a real suprise.
