YONGARY MONSTER FROM THE DEEP 1967 (KINO) BLU-RAY

A very odd and random title to bring to Blu-ray, but a welcome one none the less.

This is one of those films that makes you wonder about everything. After several earthquakes in Korea, it is discovered that a prehistoric monster called Yongary is responsible for it all.

Yongary is a gasoline eating reptile that stomps Korea flat in order to find food. The two scenes that really sick out in my mind are when Yongary starts dancing to Korean rock music! and when he uses his fire breath you can see the blow torch in his mouth.

Some of the effects are well done, and the movie is not without it's charm. I do understand that the original Korean prints to the film have been destroyed and the only ones remaining are the US television print, which this is, of course.

Late last year when this was announced, I was somewhat surprised as this is a left field pick for Kino. Of all the movies waiting for a Blu-ray release, this is not one I was thinking of right away. The presentation is very good with a crisp clear picture and very good sound. Hats off to Kino for bringing this off the wall monster movie to Blu-ray!!
