SHOCKPROOF 1949 (TCM VIEWING)

Very interesting film noir.

Douglas Sirk directed this film noir written by Sam Fuller. Cornel Wilde is a parole officer who is assigned to a beautiful young woman who has served five years for murder.

Lovely patricia Knight is Jenny Marsh a hard and bitter woman, who at first wants to make time with her lover Harry Wesson (John Baragrey), but slowly over time she comes to like the life she leads under her parole officer, Griff Marat.

This leads to many complications, and when Jenny shoots Harry she and Griff attempt to hide from the law. Their escape to Mexico is foiled and soon Griff is working in an oil field under an assumed name.

This is a pretty nifty little thriller with the cast giving it their all. Fuller writes a very taut story and Sirk handles the directing chores very well. Sirk was said to have been very angry over the ending as it was re-written and no where near as dark as the original Fuller story.

Still, this does make a good time for any film noir fan and I do recommend it.
