COMING ATTRACTIONS...

Some good stuff coming to blu-ray this year.

We've had a few great ones already such as "Monster From Green Hell, "The Body Snatcher" (1956) and a few more.

Now coming in June is "Brain From Planet Arous" from Film Detective. This company has also announced that on April 19th, just a few days from now it will be releasing on Blu-ray the all time Jerry Gross classic "Girl On A Chain Gang" which to me is required viewing.

Also in June they are releasing the wonderful "Love Slaves Of The Amazon" which I have wanted to see for the last 50 years!! Later in the summer they are giving us a beautiful print of "Battle Of The Worlds" which is a 1960 Italian space film starring Claude Raines.

Ignite films has announced a fall 2022 release of one of the most requested films ever....INVADERS FROM MARS 1953. The blu-ray is a 4k release and promises to be stunning. My God, it's about time.

ALIEN FROM THE DEEP 1989 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Ignore all the lame and dumb trashing of this film.

I hadn't heard of this film, believe it or not until I saw it on the Sinister Cinema website, and after reading the small synopsis I knew I had to see it.

I did some research and found nothing but scathing comments about both films and director. I gotta say it, these people are so wrong in my opinion.

Robert Marius is Lee and Marina Giulia Cavalli is Jane, two Greenpeace workers who are determined to film the mysterious goings on on a small island where a secret Government project called E-Tech is operating.

What they are really doing is dumping radioactive waste into a volcano and trying to keep everything under control. Lee and Jane manage to sneak in and do a bit of videotaping, but are spotted. Lee gets caught, but Jane escapes with the government people in hot pursuit. She is rescued by a man named Bob (Daniel Bosch).

Together they form a plan to rescue Lee whose now being questioned by the man in charge of the entire project, Col. Kovacks (Charles Napier). A mysterious fireball lands in the ocean around the island and that's when the real trouble begins.

Kovacks finds his project under attack from a monsterous creature that has come from space after being attracted to the location by the huge amounts of radioactive waste.

I think the huge monster looks pretty cool and God help you if it even touches you! This was directed by Antonio Margheriti who was one of the best Italian directors of his time.

The film moves along and is never boring. Yes, it takes awhile for the monster to show up, but when it does...oh my. The print quality from Sinister is stunning and in widescreen and English dubbed.

Mindless fun despite what all the "critics" say.

TO LAY A GHOST 1976 (SINISTER CINEMA)

An outstanding episode of the British TV series "Out Of The Unknown".

Iain Gregory and Lesley-Anne Down star as a newly married couple, Eric and Diana Carver. They move into an old house and hope to start a life together.

Diana has sex problems because she is still suffering trauma from a violent rape when she was 15. This causes a bit of a problem, but Eric deals with it and he feels Diana will snap out of it soon.

Diana starts seeing a mysterious man in the house and Eric believes it's just nerves, but the sighting persist until Diana starts to act funny by walking in the garden still asleep at night, fainting and much more.

Eric calls in Dr. Philimore (Peter Barkworth) who deduces that a ghost is haunting the house and that it is very dangerous. It turns out to be the ghost of the man who raped Diana years ago.

Diana who was very standoffish about sex with Eric now wants him to be brutal and rough with her. Eric decides to just leave as he cannot cope with this.

This leaves Diana alone in the house when he ghostly lover comes a calling. What an ending!! The "Out Of The Unknown" series started out as a science fiction show, but then went more to the supernatural.

There are not many episodes of this series left as the video tapes were erased by the BBC to save money. Lesley-Anne Down was 16 when she made this thriller!! This is an excellent example of British horror. The quality from Sinister is beautiful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

RIP NEHEMIAH PERSOFF 1919-2022

One of the oldest living entertainers has passed away.

In his 45 year acting career Persoff appeared in almost every program I ever watched, and tons of movies as well.

He began his acting career in 1948 on an episode of "The Naked City". His genre credits include such TV shows as "Suspense", "I Spy", "The Twilight Zone", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "Thriller", "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea", Wild Wild West", "Tarzan" and hundreds more.

I also enjoyed him in such shows as "Gilligan's Island", "Naked City", "The High Chaparrel", "Ellery Queen" and many others. He seemed to always be working.

Some of his film credits include "The Stranger Within", "Fate Is The Hunter", "Day Of The Outlaw" and "Al Capone" among others. His waork was always good and he could play just about any role.

Persoff was born in Jerusalem in 1919 and passed away in California on April 5th at the age of 102. A legendary talent and a very gifted man who lived a good long life and had a great career.

STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD 1965 (SINISTER CINEMA)

This is also known as Hercules Vs. The Giant Warriors.

The was actor Dan Vadis' first time as Hercules, and he proves to be one of the best.

In this outing, Hercules must defeat an evil warlord. Yep it sounds like all the other sword and sandal films, but this time the warlord has a mother who is a witch and she gives him a magic dagger.

This dagger makes an army of golden steel men appear. These golden giants keep the population in check, and Hercules is called on to help. I was kind of surprised to see Hercules have his strength taken away by his father for killing an innocent man while in a rage over his kidnapped love.

This is a fun and fast moving film and the print is in beautiful color and widescreen. Vadis did his own stunts in the film as there were no stuntmen as big as he was.

In my opinion, this is one of the best sword and sandal films from the 60's. It's simple and unassuming and that is how entertainment should be...no message...no deep philosophy...just damn good fun.

THE LAUGHING WOMAN 1969 (SINISTER CINEMA)

What a film!

Philippe Leroy stars as Dr. Sayer, who is the director of a highly rated philanthropic institute who is not all he seems to be. He has a few quirks,

He has a penchant for bizarre S&M games and hires professional women for this every weekend as part of his fantasy.

One of his employees named Maria (Dagmar Lassander) comes to the villa on business and the twisted doctor decides to employ his sadistic nature into real life.

He imprisons Maria and begins to subject her to degrading and painful S&M sessions. Maria is, of course, not liking any of it, but he breaks her down and she finally starts to fall for the demented doctor.

All is NOT how it seems of course and the film does a complete 180 turn and you find out what is really going on. It's a great twist and an ending only this kind of film could have.

This Italian exploitation film was Lassander's favorite film role, and one can see why. Lassander never looked more beautiful and she handles to role extremely well, as does Leroy.

If you're looking for something a bit different and very entertaining, this is a film you should check out. The widescreen print is in english and exceptional quality. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

PULSE 2006 (TUBI)

I guess everyone had seen this but me. I stumbled on this at 3AM one morning and was pleasently surprised.

The premise for this film is very good in my opinion.

A computer hacker named Josh (Jonathan Tucker) hacks into a strange wireless signal and then finds himself stalked by creatures that eventually cause his disappearance.

His girlfriend Mattie (Kristen Bell) investigates and goes to his apartment which is full of garbage and she finds his dead body, which tries to attack her. Things start to get really weird as a group of Mattie's friends begin to get mysterious messages from Josh over the internet.

It become apparent that they are all indanger from bizarre creatures which seem to live inside the internet. One by one each is killed until only Mattie and her beautiful roommate Isabelle (Christina Milian) are left. They hear on the news that people are disappearing all over the world at an alarming rate.

Mattie tracks down Josh's old computer and the man who took it. Together they discover that there is an entire other world made up of dead people who are trying to get back into this world vis wireless communication devices. And it is worldwide now that it has been unleashed.

There are some very effective scares in this film including the scene where Isabelle is alone in the laundry room and something is in a dryer!! A great scene indeed.

Mattie and the man named Dexter (Ian Somerhandler) discover a virus they have to use in order to stop the worldwide problem, but will it work?

I have not told a whole lot about this film because I believe I'd spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. This is an American version of the Japanese film entitled Kairo from 2001. During about a 5 year perios deom 2002 until 2007 a lot of Hollywood horror films were being based on Japanese horror. Some were good, some were not, but this is one of the good ones.

I highly recommend this to horror fans, and it's not hard to see. It's available everywhere and if you want a good scare, check it out.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

SHADOW MAN 1953 (VCI)

A solid murder mystery shot in England. It's also known as Street Of Shadows.

Cesar Romero stars as a small time operator of a pin table saloon in Soho named Luigi.

Luigi keeps his business honest even though the cops are always watching it. One day Luigi falls for a beautiful young woman named Barbara Gale (Kay Kendall) who is the neglected wife of a heavy gambler.

She agrees to divorce her husband and go away with Luigi, but before that can happen another young woman who is a friend of his is found stabbed to death in his apartment.

Luigi gets a friend of his named Limpy (Victor Maddern) to help him hide the body of Angelo Abbe (Simone Silva), but they are caught by the police. Luigi escapes and goes into hiding while trying to find out who the real killer is.

This is by no means an original story, but it does move along quickly and hold your attention. Romero is perfect for the role of the small time, but suave businessman.

The two women in the film are both stunning and had tragid lives. Simone Silva died of a stroke at the age of 29 in 1957 and beautiful Kay Kendall died of leukemia at the age of 33 in 1959.
