This is the first of the "Blood Island" trilogy, and many people say this is also the best. John Ashley, Kent Taylor and gorgeous Beverly Hills travel to a Blood Island to study the effects of radiation on the local population and what they find is horrifying.
Plant life has mutated into man eating monsters and something called the "Evil One" by the natives, tears apart young women the natives tie to crosses almost every night. Taylor is a doctor obsessed with his work and Hills is is super sexy nympho wife that needs to be given the attention she craves. She finds more than she ever bargained for when she meets up with the mutated monster running amok. Ashley is a volunteer for the Peace Corps who falls for a very lovely native woman.
The monster is amazing and once seen, never forgotten. There had been a few horror films come out of the Philippines over the last ten years leading up to this, however this film made so much money that for 20 years the islands became a hot bed for exploitation and horror films. It was directed by both Gerardo Deleon and Eddie Romero. Both are icons of the Philippine film industry.
I cannot recommend this film enough!! The other films in the trilogy are "Mad Doctor Of Blood Island" and "Beast Of Blood", both of which will be reviewed here shortly.
