He stars as Phillipides an Olympic champion in 490 BC, who is appointed commander of the Sacred Guard in the city of Athens.
During his time with the guard he falls in love with a beautiful woman whose name he doesn't know and yet he still looks for her everywhere. Meanwhile, the evil forces of Persia are hoping to invade and overtake Athens.
Phillipides helps his people by getting the armies to unify in order to stop the Persia invasion. There is a lot of action and intrigue in this fine film directed by Jacques Tourneur and finished by Mario Bava.
If you're a fan of these films, this is a great one to catch. The print from Sinister is very good and in widescreen. The rest of the cast includes many familiar faces such as Alberto Lupo, Sergio Fatoni, Ivo Garrani and the beautiful Mylene Demongeot as "Andromeda" the love of Phillipides life.
