KILLER SHREWS 1959 (GAIAM)

Classic monster movie about giant killer shrews on an island and several people who are trapped on the island and forced to fight for survival. James Best and Judge Henry Dupree are two men who bring supplies to the small island and find themselves in one hell of a mess. Ingrid Goude is the sexy daughter of the scientist played by Barush Lamet. Ken Curtis is the cowardly assistant and Gordon McLendon is the other assistant who is obsessed with the shrews. The shrews themselves are played by dogs with masks and while the effect doesn't always work, I didn't really seem to mind that much. Sure it's low budget, but damn it's fun to watch, and the cast is top notch and full of b movie vets and Texas grown actors as well. This is another reason I love regional horror so much. Very bizarre and highly recommended for fans of 50's horror and people who just want to have fun. This is one in a 12 film set from a company called Gaiam which generally produces Yoga videos and the like. I cannot figure out why they released two sets of 12 movies, but I do have to admit I like their choices. Check it out sometime.
